ACADEMY

The Police Academy’s multifaceted, performance-oriented Recruitment Training Program is designed to prepare each new recruit with the academic, procedural and practical skills training needed to become a professional law enforcement officer. Training has been divided into two phases. Phase I, an 18-week program, focuses on in-classroom training, which includes the procedures and practical skills you’ll need to know out on the beat. Phase II, a 16-week program, takes you out of the classroom and onto the streets with a veteran officer, giving you real-life experience. Once you’ve finished your academy training, you’ll be elevated to the rank of a Police Officer I, a probationary status that lasts for one year.
